We all know how important networking and one to one conversations with employers are when looking for a new job. However, opportunities can be hard to come by, especially if you are currently unemployed or are wanting to re-enter an industry after a break.
So, last week, Building Pathways, which specialises in encouraging and supporting a number of under-represented or disadvantaged groups into employment in the construction sector, organised a Information and Networking event, bringing together a range of unemployed people keen to get into the industry and several top construction employers looking to recruit a diverse range of talent. The event was organised in conjunction with construction employer Reliable Contractors and Streatham JobCentrePlus.
Alongside Reliable Contractors, who were also recruiting candidates for the next stage of a mentoring and on-site work placement programme, other businesses within the Building Pathways employer network, such as Wates, Sir Robert McAlpine and VGC Group, offered industry-led career advice and information to candidates.
Everyone who attended, as well as hearing about the latest opportunities in this booming industry, got the chance to talk directly to each of the employers, and to register with Building Pathways for personalised support through their journey back into employment.
Stakeholder & Community Manager, Liz Waters of Sir Robert McAlpine, said: “I thought it worked really well and was one of the better events of its kind in terms of engagement from those attending”.
