About the opportunity

Building Pathways is looking for a volunteer to support our small marketing and communications team.

We currently maintain a website and have set up Linkedin, Facebook, Instagram and Twitter accounts. We would like to develop our online communication capability so that we can increase the number of people and organisations that engage and work with us.

We work with people who do not traditionally enter the construction industry, including women, students, long term unemployed, those not in education, training or employment and care leavers.

You will help us to increase awareness of Building Pathways amongst our stakeholders and candidate groups and research opportunities to grow our mutually beneficial partnerships with construction industry employers.

We are also developing a mentoring scheme that is designed to help people from under-represented groups into the construction industry, and want to launch a regular email newsletter to help keep in touch with our beneficiaries. Your role will involve regularly communicating with new and existing employers, supporters and candidates to promote our work.

About Building Pathways

Building Pathways is a citb-commissioned initiative that works with employers, training providers and specialist organisations to inspire and support new and emerging talent from under-represented groups to pursue careers in construction.

We do this by providing a tailored programme of information, advice and guidance, one to one industry-led mentoring and access to skills training, work placement & employment opportunities.

What are we looking for?

We are looking for volunteers that have excellent written skills and are confident oral communicators, both face to face and online..

They will have a passion for writing and a flair for delivering compelling visual and written messages about the services that we provide.

This opportunity would suit somebody who is interested in social equality and how diversity within workforces can help to improve organisational performance.

Candidates should have an interest in online communications and marketing, particularly social media, and ideally experience of using GSuite, Mailchimp, Slack, Hootsuite and editing websites using WordPress, although training will be provided where necessary.

Practical Considerations

This opportunity will suit people that have excellent communication skills and those who are looking to put theory into practice.

We would like to hear from people that want to develop a career in marketing and communications or those that have recently left a communications role and are interested in a voluntary role which would broaden their experience.

We will provide support and training, including a named supervisor/mentor, and will reimburse any travel expenses.

Building Pathways does not use conventional office space and all team members, including this role, work from home.

Timing and commitment
We would expect the successful candidate(s) to be able to commit at least 8 hours per week (including attendance at our weekly team meeting on Skype at 10-11am each Monday) for at least 3 months from the start date, which we would like to be by 1st May 2020.
