Building Pathways has partnered with Portsmouth City Council on their Construction Skills Funded employment preparation scheme to create a training package that targets unemployed and economically inactive people in the Portsmouth area. This facilitated training leads to accredited qualifications in Level 1 Health & Safety in a Construction Environment and the CITB Operatives examination, both of which are necessary to obtain a CSCS Green Card, enabling holders to work as a labourer on a building site.
The package, conducted either remotely or in COVID-secure classrooms according to Government restrictions in place, is a mixture of online training through Building Pathways’ innovative partnership with The Digital College, and facilitated revision and testing sessions.
Since December 2020, 21 candidates have enrolled for the programme, with all 21 passing their Level 1 Health & Safety in a Construction Environment exam and 19 passing their CITB operatives test and gaining CSCS Green Cards – a pass rate of 90.4%.
Portsmouth City Council Officers, Steve Henwood and Stephen Hogan wrote:
“We have found Mike [Davis-Marks of Building Pathways] to be an extremely supportive, informative and patient tutor to our adult learners, supporting them with passion and drive.”
“Mike rose calmly and impressively to the challenge of moving the training course on-line, achieving highly impressive results for the project and supporting learners to make the steps they needed for a career in the construction industry. Feedback from learners over the support and tuition they have received has been excellent.”
