Kamani Thomas-Pryce – trainee Electrician
Kamani wanted to complete his Electrical installation training, and also gain his CSCS green card qualification, but needed support with his digital skills and learning challenges in order to proceed successfully.
Kamani is an 18-year old student from Croydon who came to us with a passion for electrics, gleaned from the Electrical Installation module of his Level 1 City & Guilds in Construction course at Carshalton College. He also had GCSEs in Maths, English, and Science, and a BTEC in Business Studies.
Kamani’s goal was to become an electrician and was already studying to that end. He needed a CSCS card and we supported him in accessing online study materials workshops to help build his confidence in the use of the digital platforms. Kamani responded positively, showing great commitment to the course, and attending every single workshop and session available to him, particularly enjoying those given by employer partners Wates and J Murphy.
This resulted in him having enough confidence, despite learning challenges, to take further training, passing his Health and Safety Level 1 with flying colours. We then supported Kamani by facilitating reasonable adjustments for his CITB Operatives test, which he also passed, gaining his CSCS Green Card.
What’s next for Kamani?
Kamani is currently undertaking his Level 3 in Electrical Installation at Merton College and is looking forward to becoming a qualified electrician so he can start working. However, after learning about the wide variety of other opportunities in construction during his time with Building Pathways, he is now interested in exploring other trades such as bricklaying and quantity surveying, with a view to becoming a multi-trade professional.
