“Growing up, I was always surrounded by the hustle and bustle of construction. The sights and sounds of it all captivated me, but many said it wasn’t a place for women. However, when the world shifted due to the pandemic, I saw it as my cue for a change.
One day, a tweet from Job Centre Plus pointed me towards Building Pathways and it made my dream of working in construction a reality.
Over the next two weeks at the Building Pathways Academy, things started to shift. Not only did I train for the Level 1 Health and Safety qualification, but I also brushed up on my interview skills and found my confidence. Learning about the different roles available for women in construction was probably the highlight for me.
A key milestone was earning my CSCS Green card. And a visit to a Sir Robert McAlpine site helped me conquer my personal fear of heights!
This journey wasn’t just about skills, it was about belief. Building Pathways saw potential in me, reigniting my self-belief. Now, I’m not dreaming anymore, I’m building my future in construction.”
Nadia landed a job in August 2021 at M Price Ltd., working as a Project Management Assistant at the Battersea Power Station Prince of Wales Drive project.
